Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government marked the centenary of the Kakori Train Action in Lucknow on Friday with a series of commemorative events aimed at honouring revolutionaries and promoting economic self-reliance. The Chief Minister paid tribute to the freedom fighters involved in the 1925 Kakori incident and urged citizens to embrace Swadeshi values and contribute to national unity.
The centenary programme featured a dramatic cultural reenactment of the Kakori train action, in which revolutionaries seized British treasury funds to support the freedom movement. The Chief Minister noted that though the amount taken was ₹4,600, the British administration spent over ₹10 lakh to capture the perpetrators, eventually executing Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaqulla Khan, Thakur Roshan Singh, and Rajendranath Lahiri.
A book based on the Kakori incident was released at the event, and a Peepal tree was planted to symbolise remembrance. The CM also participated in Raksha Bandhan celebrations with young girls, distributed sweets, and honoured families of martyred soldiers.
In his address, the Chief Minister called for widespread public participation in the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign from August 13 to 15, echoing the Prime Minister’s appeal for citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes. He urged the organisation of Tiranga Yatras at the local level to reinforce national solidarity.

He encouraged the public to prioritise indigenous products during major festivals to support local artisans and strengthen the economy.
He further called on citizens to visit Gandhi Ashram on October 2 and commit to purchasing Khadi. As part of regional development, he announced that Malihabad mangoes will be globally exported under the 'Kakori' brand, combining tribute with economic strategy.
The event concluded with tributes to historic uprisings like the Mainpuri Action (1915) and Chauri Chaura (1922), framing them as foundational sacrifices that continue to define India's democratic journey. Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh, and Lucknow Mayor Sushma Kharkwal were among those present at the event.
