CBSE: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is going to start a special community radio station for its students, teachers, and other stakeholders.

The proposal has been approved in the recent board's governing body meeting. Now, CBSE will apply to obtain the necessary license for this radio station so that this scheme can start as soon as possible.

A senior CBSE official said, "The proposal to set up a community radio station has been approved by the board's governing body. It has been decided that consultation meetings will be held in the next six months with stakeholders and experts to prepare and process the application for a community radio license."

The journey from Shiksha Vani to community radio
The official said that the board has also decided to consider the financial implications.

CBSE is already running a podcast called Shiksha Vani, which broadcasts timely audio content for various subjects of classes 9-12 in a lucid and easy manner.

CBSE-Shiksha Vani is available on the Play Store for Android phone users. Shiksha Vani has so far uploaded around 400 pieces of content as per the NCERT syllabus.

"After getting the licence, the content to be broadcast on the community radio station will be outlined," the official said.

Over 540 community radio stations are active in India

According to official data, there are 540 community radio stations in India. These stations are run by non-profit organisations such as educational institutions, NGOs and societies.

The Government of India is actively promoting the development of community radio, especially in rural and remote areas, through various initiatives and schemes.
