New Delhi: Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from Test and T20 International cricket but they are still active in ODI cricket. Both players are likely to go to Australia in October this year and take part in the three-match ODI series which will start on October 19 in Perth. On August 10 (Sunday) there was news that after the Australia series both players may also retire from the ODI format. However according to the latest report by PTI the BCCI will not take any hasty decision on this and it is possible that both of them will be asked to play some matches for India A against Australia A in September-October. At the moment India A is captained by a star Delhi player Yash Dhull. India A vs Australia A preparation plan According to a BCCI idea Kohli and Rohit may play some matches for India A during Australia As tour of India to prepare for the Australia series. These three List A matches will be played in Kanpur on September 30 October 3 and October 5 while at the same time the senior team will play the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad. Recent performances and records Kohli and Rohit who have more than 10000 runs in ODIs last played in the Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai on March 9 2025. In that match Rohit scored 76 runs off 83 balls and was the Player of the Match. At the same time Kohli scored 84 runs off 98 balls in the first semi-final against Australia and an unbeaten 100 off 111 balls in the Group A match against Pakistan. Future plans and prospects Some media reports said that the BCCI could give a farewell match to both players on October 25 in Sydney but there has been no discussion on this at the moment. The Vijay Hazare Trophy will start on December 24 2025 but before that there will be a three-match ODI series against South Africa in India from November 30. In between this three List A matches of India A vs South Africa A will be played in Rajkot on November 13 16 and 19. There is also a question of whether Kohli and Rohit would want to play these matches and whether the selectors would want this or not. During the Vijay Hazare Trophy (December 24 2025 – January 18 2025) there will also be an India–New Zealand ODI series (January 11 14 and 18) so in this too they will be able to play a maximum of 2–3 matches.
