LISBON: Cristiano Ronaldo and his long-time partner Georgina Rodríguez have once again set social media abuzz with speculation about an engagement, following a cryptic Instagram post that appears to hint at wedding plans.

The rumours erupted after Georgina shared a photo on her Instagram account over the weekend, prominently displaying a large ring on her finger. The image was accompanied by the caption: “Yes, I do. In this life and in all my lives.” The romantic wording quickly fuelled speculation among fans and tabloids that the couple may finally be preparing to marry after nearly nine years together.

Ronaldo, 40, and Georgina, 31, have been in a relationship since 2016, when they reportedly met while the Portuguese football star was playing for Real Madrid. The couple have five children together: Cristiano Jr., 15; twins Eva Maria and Mateo, 8; Alana Martina, 7; and Bella Esmeralda, 3. In April 2022, they tragically lost their newborn son, Ángel, an event that Ronaldo later described as “the most difficult moment” of his life.

The footballer and his partner were first seen publicly as a couple in January 2017 at The Best FIFA Football Awards, and confirmed their relationship a few months later. By mid-2017, they had welcomed twins via surrogacy, followed by the birth of Alana Martina later that year. Bella Esmeralda joined the family in 2022.

This is not the first time engagement speculation has emerged. In April 2022, Georgina posted another photo featuring a sparkling ring, but neither she nor Ronaldo confirmed the rumours at the time. Both have remained largely private about their personal life, occasionally sharing glimpses with fans through social media posts and public appearances.

Currently playing for Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr club, Ronaldo remains one of the world’s most recognisable sports figures, despite facing criticism in recent years over his performance and career moves. He continues to represent Portugal’s national team, where he remains a prolific goal-scorer.

While the couple have yet to make any formal statement, Georgina’s latest post has once again sparked headlines across Europe and Latin America, with fans debating whether the ring symbolizes a long-awaited engagement or is simply another sign of the couple’s enduring romance.

For now, speculation remains just that — but for millions of Ronaldo’s followers, the possibility of wedding bells for football’s most famous number 7 and his partner of nearly a decade is reason enough to keep watching their feeds closely.
