Preparation of airlines for long weekends.
The speed of air travel in the country was going slow for the last few weeks. Since July, there has been a decline in the number of flights and the number of passengers every day. According to a report by Mint, the number of domestic flights was less than 3,000 in several days and the number of passengers reached below 4 lakhs.
But now in view of the Independence Day (August 15) and the long weekends that comes after that, the airlines have tightened their gear. Large airlines like Indigo are adding extra flights, which will provide more options for passengers and will also be under control to some extent.
The number of flights is expected to increase a significant increase on August 15. In such a situation, about 12,000 additional seats are being provided by the airlines, out of which around 9,000 seats are adding IndiGo alone. Apart from this, Air India Express, SpiceJet and Akasa Air are also starting new flights. IndiGo alone is adding 38 new flights on August 15, while Air India Express 10, SpiceJet 8 and Akasa Air 2 will start additional flights.
Goa remains the first choice of travelers for long weekends. IndiGo has additional flights to Goa from cities like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi, besides Air India Express is also increasing its service from Kolkata to Bagdogra and Guwahati.
Tata Group's Air India Express has started 'Freedom Sale' on the occasion of August 15.
