Mumbai: Janmashtami, the grand celebration of Lord Krishna’s birth, is observed every year on the Ashtami Tithi of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. Devotees across India mark this day with devotion, decorating temples, preparing special offerings, and keeping fasts to honour Shri Krishna. The festival commemorates the divine birth of Lord Krishna, who appeared in Rohini Nakshatra during the Dwapar Yuga.
In 2025, Shri Krishna Janmashtami will be celebrated on Saturday, 16 August. This year marks the 5,252nd birth anniversary of Lord Krishna. Devotees believe that observing the vrat (fast) and performing puja rituals with the correct procedure on this auspicious day brings blessings, prosperity, and spiritual fulfilment. Preparations often begin days in advance, with homes and temples adorned in festive colours.
