An education official in Baghapurana, Moga district, was suspended by the Punjab government on Tuesday after a video of him dancing with his wife inside his office went viral on social media. The official, identified as Devi Prasad, was serving as the Block Primary Education Officer (BPEO). His actions were described as professional misconduct.
The suspension order was issued by Anindita Mitra, Secretary of School Education, Punjab, on the directions of Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains.
Punjab BPEO’s Dancing Video With Wife
The clip surfacing on social media depicts Devi Prasad dancing with his wife inside his office to the hit retro track, Tum Roothi Raho by Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar. It was reportedly uploaded to his wife’s YouTube channel.
Punjab School Education Minister’s Statement
Speaking about the incident, Harjot Singh Bains said, “Strict action will be taken against any official found violating rules or failing in their duties," as quoted by the Indian Express.
Devi Prasad’s Statement
According to a Senior Moga education department official, Prasad informed authorities that the video was shot in July while he was on election duty. He said that he spent a few hours in his office with his family, during which the video was recorded “for entertainment purposes only." He stated that his wife runs a YouTube channel, and their children uploaded the video there before it was picked up and shared on social media.
“We are still waiting for his written reply to the showcause notice, which is expected on Wednesday," according to an official.
Further, speaking to a local channel shared that he hails from Ferozepur and was on election duty at his Moga office on the day the video was shot. “My wife had joined me in the office because it was our marriage anniversary. The video was shot just for fun," he explained.
