On Tuesday, former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Jagan Mohan Reddy, urged for new elections for the Pulivendula and Vontimitta zilla parishad seats in Kadapa district, citing violence during the earlier bye-polls. He insisted that these elections should be overseen by central forces.
Reddy described the events in Pulivendula and Vontimitta as a blatant act of 'vote theft.' He accused the current Chief Minister, Chandrababu Naidu, of fostering chaos and undermining democracy, claiming that members of the ruling Telugu Desam Party intimidated voters.
In a statement on X, Reddy criticized Naidu's governance, likening it to a 'rowdy kingdom' and alleging that he has exploited his position to manipulate the election process. He declared that the day marked a significant blow to democracy.
The YSR Congress Party leader announced plans to approach the court to seek the cancellation of the election results. He called on all advocates of democracy to reject the injustice and support a re-election under the protection of central forces.
During a press conference at the party's headquarters in Tadepalli, Reddy reiterated his claims. Reports indicated that individuals believed to be affiliated with the TDP were involved in an assault on a YSRCP worker in Chinnakottapalli village during the bye-polls.
In response, the TDP accused YSRCP members of attacking their Scheduled Caste cell secretary, Nalla Venkata Subbaya.
