ECoR's Remarkable Freight Loading Achievement

Bhubaneswar: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has successfully achieved a milestone of loading 100 million tonnes (MT) of freight within just 134 days of the current financial year 2025–26, as reported by officials.

This accomplishment signifies a notable enhancement over the previous record of 148 days set in the financial year 2024–25, according to an official announcement.

ECoR reached this impressive target on August 12, achieving it 14 days earlier than last year's record, showcasing its continuous growth and operational efficiency.

Key contributors to this achievement include coal, iron ore, and cement, which played a significant role in reaching this freight loading milestone.

In terms of specifics, ECoR has transported 57.734 million tonnes of coal, marking a 4.6% increase from 55.17 million tonnes during the same timeframe last year. Additionally, iron ore loading rose to 25.984 million tonnes from 21.758 million tonnes, reflecting a growth of 19.4%.

Cement loading also saw a substantial increase, with 0.409 million tonnes loaded compared to 0.308 million tonnes last year, representing a commendable rise of 32.8%. Furthermore, food grain loading increased to 1.171 million tonnes from 0.99 million tonnes, an 18.3% growth, while fertiliser loading surged to 2.858 million tonnes from 2.053 million tonnes, a remarkable increase of 39.2%.

This achievement can be attributed to ECoR's strategic planning, efficient freight operations, and strong coordination with customers. The effective use of infrastructure and resources, along with a focused approach on high-demand sectors such as coal, iron ore, cement, and fertilisers, has been crucial in driving this success.
