Sportswear giant Nike has filed a lawsuit against Hong Kong actor Edison Chen, alleging he owes $126,615.68 for goods and services provided to him and his company, Juice Los Angeles.

According to Dimsum Dailythe case was filed in California’s Central District Court. The South China Morning Post reported that both Chen and Juice Los Angeles were named as defendants, with Nike claiming the company breached its account agreement by failing to pay for products supplied.

The complaint further alleges Chen is personally liable for the debt, as he signed a personal guarantee with Nike in Sept. 2019, making him “unconditionally” and “irrevocably” responsible for Juice’s debts and obligations.

Nike is seeking repayment along with interest at a rate of 1.5% per month starting 30 days after the first invoice date until the balance is cleared. The company is also demanding additional costs, collection agency fees, and reasonable legal fees. Chen has 21 days from being served to respond to the complaint.

The lawsuit comes two years after Nike and Chen ended their 17-year partnership. Beginning in 2006, Chen collaborated with Nike and its Jordan Brand subsidiary on numerous limited-edition sneakers. The partnership ended in 2023 when Chen signed with Adidas and focused on expanding his streetwear label, CLOT.

The case is part of Nike’s wider efforts to protect its brand in an increasingly competitive sneaker market. It follows the company’s recent settlement with custom sneaker designer the Shoe Surgeon, in which Nike reduced an initial $60 million claim.

Chen, 45, first rose to fame in 1999 after appearing in a commercial with Hong Kong star Leon Lai. He launched his music career in 2000 and became known for film roles in “Infernal Affairs” and “Initial D.”

In 2008, he withdrew from the entertainment industry following a high-profile photo scandal, later returning in 2010.
