New Delhi: Green chili not only enhances taste, but is also very beneficial for health. According to Ayurveda, this small chili is a panacea for many diseases with its medicinal properties, especially for diabetes patients.
Dr. Pramod Anand Tiwari of ‘Ayurvedic Medical College and Hospital of Babe’, Punjab, says that regular and balanced intake of green chillies gives many benefits to health. Green chillies are found in abundance in vitamins A, C, K and phytonutrients. It also contains beta-carotene and anti-oxidants, which are helpful in controlling diabetes, strengthening the digestive system and preventing heart diseases.
In Ayurveda, chillies are called ‘Kumrcha’. It boosts metabolism and its capsicine element balances body temperature. Apart from this, green chillies are also helpful in relieving headache, fatigue and insomnia, as well as helping the body to detox.
According to a research, the anti-microbial properties present in green chillies are effective in fighting colds and fungal infections. It controls blood pressure and eliminates harmful bacteria in the intestines. This is particularly beneficial for diabetes patients, as it helps to keep blood sugar stable. Eating a green chili regularly also increases immunity, which protects against diseases in the changing season.
At the same time, according to the US National Library of Medicine, chili compounds and nutrients are effective against diseases like blood clots, obesity, diabetes, inflammation, cancer and diseases caused by bacteria. They have anti-oxidant properties, which neutralize harmful free radicals and oxygen. Recent researches have found that compounds called capsicin present in chili can help reduce viral diseases, such as corona viruses. In addition, capsycin also makes chili useful as a pain reliever.
However, Ayurveda recommends a limited amount of intake. Excess chili can cause stomach irritation. Piles patients should avoid red chili, but green chillies are safe. It can be included in salads, vegetables or chutney. Experts say that consuming a green chili on an empty stomach in the morning improves digestion.
