This lapse in the Supreme Court of Victoria state is one of the many disturbances generated by AI in justice systems around the world.

According to the court documents viewed by the Associated Press on Friday, Rishi Nathwani, a defense counsel, who holds the prestigious legal degree of the Kings Counsel, took full responsibility of filing the wrong information in the presentation in the case of a teenager accused of murder.

Nathwani told Justice James Elliott on Wednesday on behalf of the defense, “We have deep regrets and embarrassment for what happened.”

The errors generated by the AI delayed the settlement of the case by 24 hours, which Elliott hoped that it would be settled on Wednesday itself. Elliot ruled on Thursday that Nathwani’s client, which cannot be identified due to a minor, is not guilty of murder due to mental disability.
