Famous Pakistani actress and director Sangeeta has, for the first time, spoken candidly about her personal life, revealing that her first marriage was to a fan-turned-actor during her youth, which only lasted for three years.
Sangeeta recently appeared on talk show, where she discussed both her career and personal experiences in an open and honest manner.
During the show, she admitted that she has a fiery temperament, tends to get angry easily, and has even scolded several actors. Jokingly, she described herself as quite the “bully” and explained that she would often lose her temper, particularly with actors who arrived late on set.
She stated that if a shoot was scheduled for 10 a.m., she expected actors to be on set by 11 a.m. at the latest. If anyone came later than that, she would not hesitate to “take their class.”
Speaking about her marriage, Sangeeta clarified that it wasn’t a love marriage, nor did it happen with her parents’ consent. She revealed that her first marriage was a decision made in anger — a decision she now sees as a mistake. The marriage lasted only three years.
She explained that at the time, she was upset with her mother and, out of anger, ended up marrying her fan and actor Humayun Qureshi during a film shoot in Swat.
When her mother found out, she became even more upset and told Sangeeta she was no longer welcome at home — she should live with her husband. According to Sangeeta, her mother remained displeased with her till the end and never accepted her decision.
The marriage ended within three years, but Sangeeta had a daughter with Humayun Qureshi. She advised young women to always marry with their parents’ consent.
She emphasized that parental approval in marriage provides lifelong support. When someone marries against their family’s wishes, that support is often lost during times of difficulty.
Sangeeta stressed that no girl should ever make the decision to marry out of anger. It’s always better, she said, for girls to marry with their parents’ blessings.
It is worth mentioning that after the failure of her first marriage, Sangeeta married a second time and had two daughters from that marriage as well. However, her second marriage also ended in divorce.
