Manchester United players appear to be in agreement with head coach Ruben Amorim that the team is making progress despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal. A solitary goal from Riccardo Calafiori in the 13th minute was all that separated the two sides at Old Trafford in their opening Premier League match of the season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Amorim insisted that United "were the better team," and "clearly deserved a different result." According to the Manchester Evening News, sources within the dressing room have revealed that the United squad felt their performance was "much better" than most of their home games last season. This sense of optimism has been echoed on social media.
"Disappointing result after all the hard effort by the team yesterday, but we're on the right path," Patrick Dorgu said in an Instagram post on Monday afternoon. Benjamin Sesko expressed similar sentiments on Sunday night.
"I'm proud to make my debut at Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams," his message began. "It wasn't our day today, a tough and unlucky game, but we will keep pushing forward and giving our best together. This is only the beginning! Come on, Manchester United!"
Speaking in the mixed zone after the match, Casemiro added: "I think that we have shown good moments, and we have played much better today, but we have to look for the victory. We are on the right path now; we have a good connection, and that's the path we are taking."
Bruno Fernandes, speaking to Sky Sports, shared a similar assessment: "We created some chances, but we didn't score, so that is the main negative of the day."
The United captain added: "We have a big hope for what we want to do and what we want to achieve. There are positive things to look at."
Speaking to MUTV, Fernandes concluded: "I think it's always good to see things from this game to take forward and try to replicate that, but obviously trying to get goals and win the game."
