e-Aadhaar app launch soon: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is increasing its digital transformation efforts and is developing a new mobile app, "e-Aadhaar". This app is not fully ready yet. It is still being developed. Through this, users will be able to easily update important information like name, address, date of birth, and mobile number from their smartphones. The new Aadhaar app will soon be available to download from the Play Store for Android and iOS devices.
According to UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar, about 2,000 out of 1 lakh Aadhaar authentication devices have already been upgraded to support the upcoming system.
The new Aadhaar app will allow users to verify their identity at retail stores, hotel receptions, and while traveling. This means that there will no longer be a need to carry a physical Aadhaar card or submit a photocopy of it for hotel check-in, travel, or shopping.
What is the new e-Aadhaar app?
On April 8, 2025, the Union Minister launched the beta version of the new Aadhaar mobile app developed in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The updated app includes several new features and strong security measures. It allows users to digitally authenticate and share Aadhaar information, while also protecting personal privacy. With this upgrade, Aadhaar verification will be as fast and easy as completing a UPI transaction.
Features of e-Aadhaar App:
According to UIDAI sources, this upcoming advanced app can greatly reduce the need to visit Aadhaar enrollment centers for regular updates. Most of the amendments will be possible remotely through an intuitive interface, eliminating the hassles of long queues, excessive paperwork and long waits.
In addition, UIDAI plans to get user data directly from verified government databases. This will include documents such as birth certificate, PAN card, passport, driving licence, ration card under the PDS scheme and MNREGA records. Electricity bill details can also be included to make address verification even easier.
