In a conversation with BBC News, the actor recounted his feelings about donning the costume, stating, “To be honest, it feels somewhat surreal. I’ve been a massive admirer of Harry Potter since childhood, and now stepping into Harry’s role is simply amazing.”
He continued, “This was the role I dreamed of as a child, so I’m overjoyed to be taking it on.” His enthusiasm mirrors the excitement of the fan community, many of whom are eagerly anticipating this new interpretation of the enchanting universe crafted by J.K. Rowling.

HBO provided fans with a glimpse last month, revealing McLaughlin fully dressed as Harry Potter, complete with Hogwarts robes, the character’s signature round glasses, and a lightning-shaped scar. Shortly thereafter, the first image of Frost as Hagrid was also made public.

Overview of the Harry Potter Series Cast
The cast features a rich and impressive lineup of actors: John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley, and Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy. Other cast members include Johnny Flynn (Lucius Malfoy), Bel Powley (Petunia Dursley), Daniel Rigby (Vernon Dursley), and Rory Wilmot (Neville Longbottom), among others.
The series is set to debut in 2027 on HBO and HBO Max. It will be led by showrunner and writer Francesca Gardiner, recognized for her contributions to His Dark Materials and Killing Eve. Acclaimed director Mark Mylod, known for Succession, is slated to direct the series.
