Thai authorities are investigating complaints that Bangkok’s Michelin-starred Raan Jay Fai restaurant overcharged a customer by 2,500 baht (US$77) for its signature crab omelette.

The probe began after PEACHII, a London-based Thai YouTuber with 1.6 million followers, claimed she was billed 4,000 baht for the dish while the menu lists it at 1,500 baht, Bangkok Post reported.

She said she placed her order without special requests, but the staff later claimed the higher price was due to the use of crab from a “better source.”

Her complaint, posted on Aug. 15, quickly went viral, gaining over nine million views on X within hours and sparking a debate.

While the YouTuber acknowledged the crabmeat quality was excellent, she criticized the lack of pricing transparency.

Raan Jay Fai, led by 82-year-old chef Supinya “Jay Fai” Junsuta, has had one Michelin star since 2018 and is considered a culinary landmark in Thailand.

According to Thailand’s Department of Internal Trade, restaurants found guilty of overcharging can face fines of up to 10,000 baht and an additional penalty of up to 10,000 baht for failing to display prices for premium or special dishes.
