Indian Railways transports lakhs of passengers from one place to another every day across the country. Railways continuously take new steps to make the travel of passengers convenient and organized. Now the Railways is preparing to implement a rule, due to which train travel will also be under the luggage limit like flights. That is, passengers may have to pay extra charges for carrying more luggage than the prescribed limit.
Just like baggage rules are applicable at the airport, similarly this system will now be applicable in trains as well. Although the Railways had already made luggage rules. But they were not fully implemented. At present there is no machine to check the weight of luggage at the stations. But now machines will be installed under this rule. Know how much luggage can be carried in which coach of the train.
How much luggage can be carried in which coach?
Indian Railways has set the luggage limit for different coaches. If you are travelling in AC First Class, then you can carry up to 70 kg of luggage without any extra charge. Whereas in AC Second Class this limit is 50 kg. Passengers travelling in Third AC and Sleeper Class can carry up to 40 kg of luggage. For General Class this limit has been fixed at 35 kg. Whereas if a passenger carries more luggage than the fixed limit, then he may have to pay extra charge for it. The purpose of this rule is to prevent overburden in trains and to ensure proper arrangement of space for everyone.
Penalty will have to be paid for crossing the limit
If you carry more luggage than the fixed limit while travelling in train, then you will have to pay a penalty or extra charge for it. According to railway rules, passengers can carry up to 10 kg of extra luggage according to their class. But if this limit is also crossed, then it will be necessary to get the luggage checked from the luggage booking counter. If this is not done, then a fine will have to be paid and the booking charges will be separate. Electric luggage machines will be installed at the station to check the weight limit of the luggage.
The rule will be applicable at these stations
Indian Railways has currently decided to implement the new luggage rules at selected stations of Lucknow and Prayagraj division. Major stations like Prayagraj, Prayagraj Chheoki, Subedarganj, Mirzapur, Banaras, Kanpur, Govindpuri, Aligarh, Tundla, Etawah and Lucknow Charbagh have been included in this.
