It’s been months since Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma got divorced, but people are still interested in knowing what went behind the scene causing the breakdown of their relationship.
To make matters worse, Chahal recently revealed what prompted him to wear “Be your own Sugar Daddy” t-shirt as he walked out of the court following the divorce, further inviting scrutiny towards his ex-wife wife Dhanashree.

“I just felt like I wanted to give one message and I did that. Because something had happened from the other end… I didn’t want to do it earlier but then something happened and I decided, now everyone can go to hell, I will do what I want,” Chahal had said on Raj Shmani’s podcast.
Dhanashree, on the other hand, hadn’t publicly spoken about the divorce. In an intercation with Humans of Bombay, she finally broke her silence on divorce and also shared how she felt about the stunt Chahal pulled after court’s verdict.

“It was very emotional for me and my family. I still remember when I was standing there and the verdict was about to be given, even though you are so mentally prepared that it is going to happen, it was still so emotional. I literally started howling and crying in front of everybody. I cannot even express what I was feeling at that point of time,” Dhanashree revealed.
While Chahal walked out of the courtroom in that infamous t-shirt, Dhanashree got out from the back entrance, away from the eyes of media attention.
“I got out from the back gate because I was not liking that. It was just very sad, you don’t want cameras all over your face. Humko kuch nahi bataana tha, I was wearing normal t-shirt and jeans. I sat in the car, my best friend was there with me, and we were still trying to grasp our breath. It was that shaky moment, especially when you know people will blame you only,” she added.

Quizzed about the message on Chahal’s t-shirt, which the leg-spinner alleged was his response to something that happened from the “other side” that prompted him to send one final message, the 28-year-old jokingly said, “Arre bhai, WhatsApp kardeta!”
At first she couildn’y believe that the man he once called her husband could pull off such a stunt to gain attention.

“Even before I knew about this T-shirt stunt, we were aware that people were going to hold me responsible for the divorce. In your head, you just want to move forward once it’s over. Until I took out my phone and saw it, I didn’t want to believe it.
“Ye sach mein isne aisa kiya? (Did he really do this?) In that one second, I was like — it’s over. Why should I cry? Somewhere I felt bad, questioning myself — main kyu ro rahi thi? (Why was I crying?) For this? That was the motivation I needed: I just had to laugh it out. In fact, that helped me,” she added.
Chahal and Dhanashree fell in love after the former approached her for dance lessons during the COVID-19 pandemic. They tied the knot in December 2020 and filed for divorce in February 2025.
