Samsung may have just launched its ludicrously skinny Galaxy Z Fold7, but it already has another new rival to fend off. Google is back with an upgrade to its Pixel Fold, and it gets one very impressive bonus that Samsung can't currently match. Although it's nowhere near as sleek or slim as the latest Fold7, Google has managed to make its bendy call maker IP68 water and dust resistance - a first for any foldable device.
That design should mean it can survive being fully submerged in water or smothered in dust without fear of any damage. Samsung's latest foldable has an IP48 rating, which offers a decent level of protection, but the Pixel will be able to survive tougher punishment when taken out on the road. That will certainly please those Android fans who may have been concerned about durability in the past.
Along with that improved design, the new Pixel Fold gets other upgrades, including a faster Tensor G5 processor and a bigger battery that can keep the double screens glowing for over 30 hours on a single charge.
Talking of displays, there's now a brighter 8-inch main panel which unfolds like a book and offers plenty of space for multitasking. There's also a bigger 6.4-inch panel on the front of the device, thanks to Google's design team slimming down the bezels.
Google says that both screens now go up to 3000 nits, so whether you're indoors or out in the sun, the display should stay crystal clear.
Another bonus of the 2025 Fold is the inclusion of something called Pixelsnap. This is very similar to Apple's MagSafe technolgy and allows users to snap chargers and accessories to back of the device via in-built magnets.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is also the first foldable with Qi2 charging built-in, which means users will get a quicker refill when boosting the battery wirelessly.
Like all previous Pixels, the Pro Fold gets a very good rear snapper, which includes a new 48MP main camera as part of the advanced triple system. This offers impressive zoom, macro, pin-sharp video and bright shots at night.
Its also introduces Instant View, a new feature designed to help users make sure they get the perfect shot.
When the phone is unfolded, a preview of photos is instantly available, giving owners a chance to quickly re-take a picture before the moment passes.
As you might expect from Google, this latest Pixel is also very smart. It gets access to Gemini Live along with other featurs such as Magic Cue and Daily Hub. There's even a new Camera Coach option which helps users snap the perfect images for socail media and their family albums.
