Pithori amavasya vrat katha in hindi: Amavasya Tithi has special significance in Hinduism. Amavasya of Bhadrapada month is known as Pithori Amavasya. Pithori Amavasya fast is being kept on 22 August, Thursday i.e. today. Along with keeping the fast on this day, there is also special significance of fasting.

On the day of Pithori Amavasya, women fast for the long life of their children. It is believed that by observing fast on this day, the grace of Mother Durga would have been received. Also, all the sufferings of life go away. On the day of Pithori Amavasya, the bodies of 64 goddesses are done by making their rituals.

Story of Pithori Amavasya

According to the legend, in ancient times, seven brothers lived in a village, whose wives kept fast on Pithori Amavasya. In the first year, the wife of the elder brother kept a fast and her son died. The same happened for the second year. When the same happened for the seventh year, the elder brother's wife hid the body of her dead son somewhere.

At that time, Kuldevi mother of the village was protecting the village of Polaramma. He saw the sad mother and asked the reason. The mother told the whole thing. The goddess felt pity on her and asked the mother to sprinkle turmeric at the places where her sons were cremated.

The mother did the same. When she returned home, she saw that her seven sons were alive. Seeing this, there was no place for his happiness. Since then, every mother of that village started fasting for the long life of her children.
