Reports of their split surfaced on Thursday, with speculation that Lee had not kept his promise to register their marriage immediately after Wong’s release from prison on July 7, and that she had since been distancing herself, St Headline reported.

The veteran TVB actor dismissed the claims as false, saying both he and Wong prefer to live quietly and avoid media attention. Wong has asked “to be forgotten by others,” he said, which is why the couple limit public appearances. She also requested that he not speak much about their private life, which he said he respects.

Wong is currently living with her parents in mainland China, while Lee resides in Hong Kong. He has also been traveling recently to Canada and the U.S. for work, without her accompanying him.

Despite the distance, Lee emphasized that the two remain committed. “I will marry her soon, and she sincerely wants the same,” he said.

“We are determined to walk the same path together, and no one can stop our love.”

Earlier reports said Lee is in the process of completing his marriage registration with hopes of bringing Wong back to Hong Kong after her deportation.

Wong, a mainland Chinese national, was arrested in Feb. 2024 for overstaying her Hong Kong tourist visa. Her legal troubles escalated in May 2024 when she was found to have used fraudulent U.S. aviation college graduation certificates to apply under Hong Kong’s Mainland Talents and Professionals Scheme.

In June 2024, she was sentenced to prison for five offenses, including document forgery and submitting false information. Wong pleaded guilty and accepted her sentence.

Despite these challenges, Lee and Wong remain hopeful about their future together.

“Perhaps the misfortune and sadness are finally over,” Lee shared with the media. “Chris has endured a lot, but now she’s happy and in good spirits. I will bring her happiness.”

At 75, Lee is best known for his roles in iconic TVB dramas such as “The Return of the Condor Heroes,” “The Smiling, Proud Wanderer,” “Journey to the West,” and “Forensic Heroes.” He has three adult children from a previous marriage in the 1970s, each of whom is older than Wong.

The actor met Wong, 38, in 2016. The couple had initially planned to marry in late 2023 but postponed their wedding following the death of Wong’s father.

Lee has once expressed that his children from his previous marriage have shown appreciation for Wong’s care and support. Over the years, he has made efforts to better adapt to Wong’s lifestyle, including changing his language, perspective, and maintaining a healthier lifestyle by avoiding alcohol and cigarettes, he said.
