Each week, BBC Breakfast viewers are used to seeing Jon Kay detail the latest headlines alongside his regular co-host, Sally Nugent.

During the programme, which recently announced the return of one beloved soap, the presenters often interview a wide range of celebrities on the infamous red sofa.

One of these is Australian actor Alan Fletcher, who appeared on the BBC show this week to chat with Jon and his colleague Sarah Campbell.

However, it seems as though this wasn't the first time that the actor, known for playing Dr. Karl Kennedy in Neighbours, had met Jon Kay.

Taking to Instagram, the BBC star shared a throwback image of himself alongside Alan, which was taken three decades ago.

The first photo shows a fresh-faced Jon without his glasses, smiling at the camera next to Jackie Wooburne, who played Susan Kennedy, with Alan standing on the other side of her.

A second image showed a close-up of the actor from his appearance on BBC Breakfast, with the last showing Jon, Alan and Sarah during their chat on Wednesday's show.

He captioned the images: "Thirty years between these photos!! The first is from the mid-nineties when I was backpacking round Australia and bumped into the Kennedys from Neighbours - actors Alan Fletcher and Jackie Wooburne.

"(I say "bumped into" - actually, we deliberately hung around outside the set in Melbourne for hours hoping to see them! Neighbours was MASSIVE at the time)"

"And then, this week Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl) came into BBC Breakfast to talk about his music career and his tour of the UK. Still a lovely chap.

"Good to see you again @alanfletcher - you've aged much better than me!!!"

It wasn't long before people commented on the post, with many in disbelief over Jon's appearance.

One person said: "Wow doesn't even look like you Jon,fab reunion though." Another wrote: "This is iconic!"

Someone else commented: "Hard to believe that was you, you've really come into your own. I would never have guessed that was you, Jon." While one fan shared: "LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS

Another added: "This is amazing!" As one follower commented in disbelief: "THIRTY!!?? What were you ...5?! ...with early onset stubble?"
