E-Passport: Now passport will be made sitting at home, know the whole process

E-passport application: In today’s time, where important documents like Aadhaar card, voter ID and PAN card become online, now the facility of making passports has also become easier. Now you do not have to travel around an office or stand in a long queue. Government e-Passport (E-passport) It has been started, which has made the process of making passports safe and digital.

New facility started in the country

The Government of India has taken a big step in the region in view of the increasing cases of passport fraud. Its pilot project was launched on 1 April 2024. After the successful trial, it has now been made available to ordinary citizens. However, at present, this facility is being available only at a select passport service centers, but soon it will be expanded across the country.

What is e-passport?

E-Pasport is an advanced version of traditional passports. This includes both physical and digital facilities. It has a small golden chip icon on its cover, which has a radio frequency identity (RFID) chip and antenna. In this chip, the citizen’s personal information, fingerprint and digital photos are safe.

The aim of the government is that this will not only strengthen passport security but will also make international travel easier. Note that e-passport is not an alternative to the existing passport but its advanced form.

How to apply for e-Passport?

  • First go to the passport service portal.
  • Create or sign a new account and fill the application form of e-passport.
  • Select your close Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).
  • Submit the fees online and schedule appointment.
  • Reach the center for biometric enrollment and document verification on the due date.

After this, your passport will be easily made.

Specialty of e-passport

  • The chip in the cover records information about fingerprint, facial photo and iris scan.
  • This chip is encrypted and contactless.
  • The entire process is designed according to international standards ICAO.

Essential document

For e-passport, the same documents will be imposed in general passports-

  • Identification proof: Aadhar card, voter ID or PAN card
  • Address proof: Electricity/Water bill, bank statement or address Aadhaar card
  • Birth date proof: Birth certificate, matriculation certificate or Aadhaar card
  • Old passport (for renewal only)
