Legal Proceedings Initiated Against Tejashwi Yadav

An FIR has been lodged against Tejashwi Yadav, a leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, in both Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh. This action follows accusations of him posting derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi on social media.

On Friday, authorities in Maharashtra took action by filing a report against the former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. The complaint alleges that Yadav shared content deemed 'highly offensive, false, and defamatory' regarding Modi, as reported by a local news outlet.

The complaint was filed at a police station in Gadchiroli, initiated by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Milind Ramji Narote. He stated that BJP members alerted him to Yadav's posts, where the prime minister was labeled a 'liar' and accused of making 'false promises.'

One of the posts included a song suggesting that Modi 'lies morning and evening.'

Narote emphasized that this behavior is not just an affront to an individual but also disrespects the office of the Prime Minister and the dignity of the nation. He expressed concerns that such posts could incite confusion and unrest within society.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Shahjahanpur Police also filed an FIR against Yadav, prompted by a complaint from the local BJP unit chief, Shilpi Gupta. Reports indicate that Gupta claimed Yadav's comments sparked significant anger among the populace.

According to the FIR in Maharashtra, Yadav is charged under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which address the use of electronic communication to incite hatred, promote ill-will, and make defamatory statements against the government.

In Uttar Pradesh, the charges relate to spreading rumors and making allegations through imagery.

Yadav's posts coincided with PM Modi's visit to Gaya, Bihar, where he inaugurated several projects. In response to the FIRs, Yadav questioned who was intimidated by such legal actions, asserting that those afraid of the truth are the ones filing complaints.

He remarked, 'Even saying the word 'jumla' has become a crime.' Yadav maintained that he and his party are unafraid of any FIRs and will continue to speak the truth.

This controversy arises as Bihar prepares for upcoming Assembly elections, anticipated to occur in October or November.
