Who doesnt know Tata? The name is synonymous with trust dependability and excellence. This Indian firm has global reach. N. Chandrasekaran a trusted associate of Ratan Tata is now in charge. From needles to airplanes and from roads to the seas the company’s business segments are endless. Tata has entrusted the leadership of this vast empire to the son of a farmer who once joined the company as an intern and today leads the entire Tata Group.
The journey of N. Chandrasekaran could be a script for an epic movie. The son of a farmer from a small village called Mohanur in Tamil Nadu. No one in Chandrasekarans family would have imagined that their son would someday be sitting in the highest seat in one of India’s largest companies. Even if he didn’t have the Tata name Ratan Tata placed his trust in him.
Chandrasekaran was born in Tamil Nadu to a farming family. He worked his way up the corporate ladder through hard work willpower and creative thinking. He is now leading the largest business conglomerate in India which is valued at over $303 billion (approximately Rs 30.37 lakh crore). He lives in a luxurious duplex in Mumbai worth $11.47 million (approximately Rs 98 crore) and is located very close to Mukesh Ambanis iconic private residence Antilia.
According to the official website of Tata Power Mr. N. Chandrasekaran serves as Chairman of the board of Tata Sons the holding company and promoter of more than 100 Tata operating companies with aggregate annual revenues of more than 150 billion USD. He joined the board of Tata Sons in October 2016 and was appointed Chairman in January 2017.
Natarajan Chandrasekaran or N Chandrasekaran was born in 1963 in Mohanur a village in the Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu. He was raised in a modest farming family and attended a government school. Chandrasekaran was a brilliant student. He continued his studies at the Coimbatore Institute of Technology where he received his bachelors degree in Applied Sciences. He received his Master of Computer Applications (MCA) degree from the Regional Engineering College in Tiruchirappalli now NIT Trichy.
Chandrasekaran frequently referred to as Chandra began his profession with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an intern in 1987. By 2007 he had become the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of TCS. In 2009 at the age of 46 Chandra was named Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of TCS making him one of the youngest CEOs in Tata Group history. TCS has since grown to be one of the largest IT services companies in the world under Chandras leadership.
