The central government has announced the advance payment of August 2025 salary, wages, and pension for its employees and pensioners in Maharashtra and Kerala in view of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi and Onam festivals.

The government has said that it will release the August 2025 salary dates of all central government employees, including defense, post, and telecommunications in Maharashtra, in advance on August 26, 2025, before the Ganesh Chaturthi advance salary. In an office memorandum, the Finance Ministry on August 22, 2025 said, "In view of the 'Ganapati' festival, the government has decided that the salary for August 2025 of all Central Government employees in the State of Maharashtra may be drawn and distributed by the Central Government Offices (including Defence, Post and Telecom) on August 26, 2025 (Tuesday)."

When will central government employees get their salaries in Kerala?

The central government said it will release the salary for the month of August 2025 of all Central Government employees in Kerala, including Defence, Post and Telecom, well in advance on Monday, August 25, 2025, before the Onam festival.

According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar, Onam will be celebrated on September 4 and 5 in 2025. In an office memorandum dated August 21, 2025, the Finance Ministry said, "In view of the 'Onam' festival, the government has decided that the salary/wages/pension of all Central Government employees in the State of Kerala may be drawn and disbursed by Central Government Offices (including Defence, Post and Telecom) on 25-08-2025 (Monday)."

Further, the salary, wages, and pension disbursement will be treated as advance payment, the ministry said in the statement. "The salary/wages/pension so disbursed shall be treated as an advance payment and shall be subject to adjustment after the determination of the salary/wages/pension of each employee/pensioner for a full month. Adjustment, if any, shall be made from the salary/wages/pension of August/September 2025 without any exception," the Finance Ministry said in the memorandum. The Ministry has requested the Reserve Bank of India to bring these instructions to the notice of all the paying branches of banks in Kerala and Maharashtra so that necessary action can be taken immediately.
