Rangia, Aug 26: On Monday, local authorities announced a magisterial inquiry regarding the alleged lynching of a young man in Tamulpur district, who sustained injuries from a road accident.
An official announcement indicated that the investigation was deemed necessary due to the seriousness of the situation, public outcry, and media reports.
District magistrate Pankaj Chakravarty has tasked Goreswar circle officer and executive magistrate Trilina Taid with leading the inquiry. Taid is expected to provide her findings promptly, as stated in the announcement.
The victim, identified as 23-year-old Abhishek Das, tragically lost his life following a car accident at Bharali Chowk on August 20 while returning from a nearby tourist destination with three friends.
On Sunday, Abhishek's family lodged a complaint at the Tamulpur police station, claiming that a mob attacked him, leading to his death.
His friends, who were also injured in the incident, reported that when Abhishek exited the vehicle to seek assistance, he was assaulted by local residents.
He was pronounced dead upon arrival at a hospital in Rangia.
A video surfaced on Sunday showing the three injured survivors inside the car, surrounded by a mob.
However, local residents have denied the allegations, asserting that Abhishek died from injuries sustained in the accident.
