However there are times when these notions are shattered by some movies which despite being made on a small budget rake in money like anything. Not just that these movies end up becoming cult classics too. Similarly this movie which we will be discussing was made for Rs 30 lakh and went on to earn Rs 98 lakh.

The movie we are discussing featured two powerhouses – Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna. The film was shot in 28 days and did wonders on the big screens. The film in discussion is none other than Anand.

Released in 1971 Anand not only created a stir at the box office but also made people cry with emotions. For the first time Amitabh and Rajesh were paired and their camaraderie was loved by the audience.
Helmed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee Anand was shot in just 28 days and had a budget of around Rs 30 lakh. It hit the box office and grossed around Rs 98 lakh. The numbers at the box office were a huge achievement as any film touching a crore was a big deal back then.
The film was directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee who turned it into a simple but heartwarming story. Gulzar Bimal Dutt and D. N. Mukherjee contributed to the screenplay while the dialogues were written by Gulzar.
About Anand
The story is about a terminal cancer patient Anand Sharma (Rajesh Khanna) who lives life with full enthusiasm even while struggling with the inevitability of death.
