Ganga Expressway Nears Completion: A Milestone for Uttar Pradesh's Development

Current Status of Ganga Expressway Construction

The Ganga Expressway, poised to be a significant driver of progress in Uttar Pradesh, is now nearing the end of its construction phase. As per the latest update from the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) dated August 25, the project is currently 89% finished, with most major construction activities reaching their final stages. Spanning approximately 594 kilometers, this expressway begins in Meerut and stretches to Prayagraj, aiming to enhance traffic flow throughout the state while fostering economic and industrial growth.


Construction Milestones Achieved

The UPEIDA report highlights several key accomplishments in the construction process:



  • Earthwork for the main road: 99% completed

  • Curb and Gutter (C&G): 100% completed

  • Granular Sub-base (GSB): 96% completed

  • Wet Mix Macadam (WMM): 97% completed

  • Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM): 96% completed

  • Structures: 1,489 out of 1,500 completed


Route Details and Features

The expressway commences from NH-334 in Meerut and concludes at the NH-2 Bypass in Prayagraj, traversing through 12 districts, including:



  • Meerut

  • Hapur

  • Bulandshahr

  • Amroha

  • Sambhal

  • Badaun

  • Shahjahanpur

  • Hardoi

  • Unnao

  • Rae Bareli

  • Pratapgarh

  • Prayagraj


Designed with a width of six lanes, the expressway has the potential to expand to eight lanes in the future. Additionally, a 3.75-meter-wide service road is being constructed alongside to ensure smooth connectivity for nearby villages.


Significance for State Development

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for this project on December 18, 2021, in Shahjahanpur. It is anticipated to be a transformative initiative for Uttar Pradesh, significantly reducing travel times and creating new avenues for trade, investment, and job opportunities.


Officials believe that the Ganga Expressway will stimulate regional development, alleviate congestion on existing highways, and offer a modern, efficient travel route for residents.


As the project approaches completion, the latest UPEIDA report suggests that its inauguration could occur soon, marking a historic moment in Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure development journey.
