News India Live, Digital Desk: Do not eat white rice, you will get fat. ” “Drink coffee as much during the day, it is good.” “Gluten is poison.” – These are some things that we have been hearing for years and have started trusting them with eyes closed.

Dr. Uma Naidu, a well-known nutritional psychiatrist (expert of mind and nutrition) of Harvard Medical School, has exposed many such misconceptions to food and drink. He says that we exclude many things from our diet without thinking, while in reality they are not as bad.

Let’s know about the big myths whose truth was told by Dr. Naidu:

Myth 1: White rice is an enemy of health.
Truth: This is the biggest lie. Dr. Naidu says that white rice has less fiber and nutrients, it is true, but it is easily digested and gives the body immediately energy. It is also good for our intestines. The problem is not in rice, but in the amount of food. If you eat a balanced amount with nutritious things like lentils and vegetables, then it is not harmful at all. It is a big mistake to remove it completely from the diet.

Myth 2: Coffee is beneficial in every way.
Truth: We see coffee like a ‘superdrink’ that keeps us awake and gives energy. It is true that there are benefits of balanced amounts of black coffee, but it is not right for everyone and all the time. Dr. Naidu warns that drinking too much coffee can increase anxiety, sleep patterns can deteriorate and heartbeat can become sharp. It can also increase the hormone ‘cortisol’ that causes stress in the body. So consider coffee as friends, but in a limit.

Myth 3: Everyone should eat gluten-free.
Truth: Gluten-free has become a fashion trend nowadays. Many people think that they will be healthy by leaving gluten (which is found in wheat, barley, rye). Dr. Naidu says that gluten is only harmful to those who have a problem of ‘celiac disease’ or gluten sensitivity. There is no point for the rest of the people to leave it. Actually, products with many gluten-free packets lack nutrition and may have more sugar and fat.

Myth 4: MSG (Ajinomoto) is dangerous for health.
Truth: MSG is often seen to be associated with eating Chinese and is considered to be the cause of many problems ranging from headache. According to Dr. Naidu, even after decades of research, no such strong evidence has been found that can prove that MSG is dangerous for health. Very few people may have light sensitivity to this, but it is completely safe for most people.

So the next time someone interrupted you after seeing your white rice plate, you can tell them this truth. The secret of staying healthy is not in leaving anything completely, but eating everything in balanced quantity.
