On August 30, a student in Class 11 at Frontier Senior Secondary School in Sribhumi was apprehended by police after a homemade pistol was discovered in his possession during school hours.
The situation unfolded when a teacher observed the student frequently reaching into his pocket, which raised concerns. Assuming he might be hiding a mobile phone—banned on school grounds—the teacher decided to investigate and was taken aback to find a firearm instead.
The teacher recounted, "I noticed the student repeatedly putting his hand in his pocket. Given that mobile phones are prohibited, I suspected he might have one. Upon checking, I was astonished to find a pistol. I immediately confiscated it and alerted the principal."
Principal Swapan Debnath was informed right away, and he quickly contacted both the police and the student's parents. Officers from Sadar Police Station arrived shortly after, took possession of the weapon, and took the student and his father in for questioning.
The student reportedly told the principal that a masked individual had forced him to carry the gun while he was en route to school, threatening to harm him and his father if he refused.
The principal shared with the media, "The student claimed that a person on a motorcycle, with his face concealed, handed him the pistol and threatened his life and that of his father. Out of fear, he brought the weapon to class."
Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation to validate the student's account and locate the individual involved.
