Guwahati, August 30: The Assam Government's recently implemented 'pushback' strategy has successfully returned over 450 individuals, with the latest operation resulting in the deportation of 33 alleged infiltrators back to Bangladesh.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared this update on social media, incorporating a musical reference to enhance his message.
He quoted the famous lines from John Denver's Country Roads, stating, 'Now playing on illegal infiltrators’ playlist: Assam Police take me home, to the place I belong... 33 new infiltrators have been PUSHED BACK to where they belong — Bangladesh.'
Although the specific location was not disclosed, officials indicated that the majority of recent pushbacks have occurred in Assam’s Sribhumi district, which borders Bangladesh.
Previously, on August 16, security forces had also deported 21 alleged infiltrators from the same region during the late hours.
Sarma warned of more stringent measures to come, stating, 'Beware: our stringent efforts continue and will further intensify in the coming days.'
Officials noted that the Border Security Force (BSF) has increased its monitoring along the 1,885-km Indo-Bangladesh border in the Northeast, especially following unrest in Bangladesh last year.
The Assam Police are also on high alert to thwart any new infiltration attempts.
The Chief Minister has consistently encouraged the public to adopt a 'non-compromising attitude' towards security, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in addressing illegal immigration.
The 'pushback' policy represents a more aggressive stance by the Assam Government in managing cross-border migration, prioritizing immediate deportation over prolonged legal proceedings.
