If you are among those worried that Paytm UPI will stop working after 31 August, there is no need for concern. The confusion began after users received notifications from Google Play and other platforms, which led to doubts about the continuity of Paytm UPI services. However, Paytm has officially clarified the matter, confirming that regular UPI transactions will continue as usual.
The change applies only to recurring payments, such as subscription-based auto-debits for services like YouTube Premium, Google One storage, or similar platforms. Until now, these payments were linked to the old @paytm UPI handle, but going forward, users will need to switch to new handles such as @pthdfc, @ptaxis, @ptyes, or @ptsbi.
Paytm emphasized that there will be no impact on one-time UPI transactions. Whether you are making merchant payments, buying apps on Google Play, or transferring money, all regular payments will continue without disruption.
The update is necessary because the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) has approved Paytm as a Third-Party Application Provider (TPAP). As part of this process, Paytm is migrating users from its old UPI handle to new bank-partner handles. From 1 September, recurring payments linked to the old @paytm handle will stop working, which is why the company has set 31 August as the deadline for updates.
For users, the solution is simple: open the Paytm app and update your UPI ID to one of the new handles. Alternatively, you can link your subscription payments to another UPI app like PhonePe, Google Pay, BHIM, or WhatsApp UPI. Users also have the option of switching to debit or credit cards for auto-renewals.
