The International Chess Federation (FIDE), taking major action, has canceled the GM title of Grandmaster Kiril Shevachnco, Romania. Born in Ukraine, this player was caught using a mobile phone in the toilet during the Spain Team Championship in October last year. In this case, FID had already imposed a three -year ban on him, which will now be effective till 18 October 2026.

22 -year -old Shawchhenko was immediately dropped from the tournament played in Spain. His draw matches played in the first two rounds were also converted into defeat. Investigation found that he secretly used during the game by hiding a mobile phone, which is a direct violation of Article 11.7 (E) of the FIDE Discipline Code.

According to FIDE, the ban came into force from 19 October 2024 and will continue till 18 October 2026. However, one year has been suspended in future on the condition of staying away from any other misconduct. During this period, Shevchenko will not be able to participate in the event to any FIDE.

Shewchenko, who once reached the 75th position in the world rankings, appealed against the punishment. At the same time, FIDE FIDE FIL Play Commission had also filed a cross-appeal, disagreeing with some conclusions of the first phase. Later FIDE’s appeal Chamber unanimously rejected Shevchen’s appeal and confirmed his guilty. At the same time, the cross-plan of the FPL was accepted, after which the decision of the first hearing was changed and the Grandmaster title of Shevchenko was also snatched away.

FIDE Management Board deputy chairman Dan Rengese said, “Fide takes the cases of fraud in top players very seriously. We are working hard on both prevention and quick action. No compromise can be made on fair sports. It is mandatory for the credibility and future of our game.”
