He said most Muslims consume beef because it is inexpensive. However, he added that his family has not eaten it in ages.

He further said Prophet Mohammed has "forbidden" beef because cow slaughter is discouraged in religion. "But in the teachings of prophet Mohammed, he has clearly stated that a cow's milk is a substitute for mother's milk and it is a mufid (beneficial) cheez. He has stated that cows should not be killed and beef is forbidden," he elaborated.
The 89-year-old added, "Prophet Mohammed has adopted good things from every religion. Like eating only halaal meat, which was adopted from the Jews, who call it kosher. He has postulated that every religion is good and believes in a Supreme Power like we do."
Khan, father of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, has been celebrating Hindu festivals at home for years. The Khan family is known for their secular celebrations in the film industry and even welcomed Ganpati into their home this year.
