Rain warning in Gurugram

Due to continuous rains in Gurugram and other areas of Haryana, the Meteorological Department has warned of heavy to heavy rain for the next 24 hours. On Monday, Gurugram received more than 100 mm of rain in just four hours. In such a situation, the district administration has advised to conduct online classes in work from homes and schools as a precaution, so that safety of people can be ensured and traffic jams or waterlogging can be avoided.

Ajay Kumar, DC of Gurugram and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority, has requested all corporate and private offices to provide work from home to the employees on 2 September. In addition, all schools have been instructed to conduct classes online. The administration believes that this step is necessary not only for the safety of children and employees, but will also help in reducing the crowd and traffic pressure on the roads.

Waterlogging occurred at many places due to torrential rains from noon to evening on Monday. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert for heavy rain for Tuesday. The department has warned that there is a possibility of strong rains with thunderstorms, which can increase waterlogging on the city roads. The administration has instructed to fix the drainage system and keep the rescue teams ready.

The water level of rivers in other districts of Haryana has crossed the danger mark. The rise in water level of Ghaggar in Sirsa, Yamuna in Faridabad and Markanda river in Kurukshetra has increased the possibility of flooding in the low -lying areas. Orange alert has been issued in 11 districts including Panchkula, Ambala, Karnal and Gurugram. Residents of these districts have been advised to take special vigilance.

The state government has instructed the officials to be vigilant. Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi has issued an order that all the officers should be posted at the headquarters till 5 September and no one will be allowed to leave during this period. People living in low-lying areas have been ordered to alert, monitor power supply and prepare for relief and rescue operations. The government has clarified that no negligence will be tolerated in dealing with this disaster and the safety of the people will be the top priority.
