Ben Chilwell has signed a two-year contract at Strasbourg to end a five-year association with Chelsea.

The 28-year-old, who helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021, had been training away from the first team at the club's headquarters in Cobham as he looked for a move away from the Blues. Chilwell has now moved to the BlueCo-owned Strasbourg, so he still has some form of association with the west Londoners, although he is not technically on the club's books anymore.

Just a few days after his five-year anniversary at Chelsea, Chilwell has now departed on a permanent basis. The Englishman, who has not represented his country in 18 months, last featured competitively for Chelsea in the 5-0 win over Barrow in the Carabao Cup almost one year ago - in what was his only appearance under Enzo Maresca.

Meanwhile, Strasbourg left-back Ishe Samuels-Smith is set to join Swansea City on a season-long loan, football.london understands, to pave the way for Chilwell, who joined Chelsea in 2020 for £45million from Leicester City. During his time with the Blues, Chilwell made 107 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and assisting 13.

Chilwell's departure caps off a busy transfer deadline day for Chelsea. Nicolas Jackson has completed a season-long loan move to Bayern Munich, with the Blues set to receive a £70million package for the 24-year-old, football.london understands. There is an obligation for the German champions to make the deal permanent, should certain conditions - that are classified between the parties involved - are met this season.

Meanwhile, Tyrique George was on the verge of joining Fulham on a permanent basis, but the deal fell through at the last minute. Chelsea and the Cottagers had reached an agreement understood to be worth £22million for the 19-year-old to move across west London, but Harry Wilson's transfer to Leeds United fell through and in turn, George's did as well.

There was one incoming for Chelsea on deadline day. Facundo Buonanotte has joined the Blues on a season-long loan deal from Brighton, with the west Londoners paying the Seagulls a fee of £2million for the 20-year-old Argentina international, football.london understands.
