Cairo: A catastrophic landslide has devastated a village in the Marrah Mountains of Sudan's western Darfur region, resulting in the loss of over 1,000 lives, as reported by a local rebel group. This incident marks one of the most tragic disasters in Sudan's recent history.
The calamity struck on Sunday in Tarasin village, following several days of intense rainfall in late August, according to a statement from the Sudan Liberation Movement-Army.
The initial reports suggest that nearly all residents of the village, estimated to exceed one thousand individuals, perished in the disaster, with only one survivor being reported.
The village has been described as being 'completely flattened,' prompting the group to call upon the United Nations and international humanitarian organizations for assistance in recovering the deceased.
