Synopsis

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has summoned Bihar BJP leaders to Delhi amid concerns over the party's performance ahead of the assembly elections. Shah is expected to address the perceived lack of strong counter-narratives to the opposition's campaign led by Rahul Gandhi. Dissatisfaction also stems from the muted response to alleged insults against the Prime Minister's mother.

Ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, Union home minister Amit Shah has called a meeting of the core group of state BJP leaders on Wednesday in Delhi. Bihar deputy chief ministers - Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha-state BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal and a few others will be present during the meeting.

The meeting has been called at a time when the Opposition completed its 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar which was led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Sources in the BJP told ET that Shah is likely to pull up the state BJP leaders ahead of elections. The party believes that the state leaders have not done enough on the ground within the past few weeks to strongly counter the narrative of Gandhi who was touring the state. Simultaneously, the NDA leaders were touring the state in 14 teams across 84 assemblies. But that did not create much buzz in the state.

The party also feels that the issue of someone allegedly abusing the PM's mother should have been protested strongly across the state as the Bihar leadership largely restricted themselves to issuing statements against it. After PM Modi talked about the incident on Tuesday, the state BJP has come into action to plan protests.

There are also reports of internal rivalry among the Bihar BJP leaders and Shah is likely to tell the leaders to resolve their internal issues and come up as a united force before elections.
