A 53-year-old Filipino tourist collapsed and died during a ride at Hong Kong Disneyland late last month, prompting police to launch an investigation.
The man, who had a pre-existing heart condition, was on the Frozen Ever After ride with his wife when he lost consciousness at around 10 a.m. on Aug. 29, the South China Morning Post reported.
Emergency personnel at the park attempted to resuscitate him before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than two hours later.
An initial investigation found the incident was “not to ride safety,” according to the park, though the attraction was temporarily closed for “operational adjustments,” The Straits Times reported.
The man’s wife told police that her husband suffered from hypertension and other heart- issues, for which he required regular medication and check-ups.
Frozen Ever After, located in the World of Frozen land, has been in operation since late 2023. The ride is open to guests of all ages and heights, though pregnant women are advised not to participate.
The Philippine Consulate-General in Hong Kong confirmed the incident on Aug. 30, saying it was coordinating with local authorities to assist the family with repatriating the body.
The death came just three weeks after another Filipino tourist was killed in Hong Kong when a taxi struck him outside a hotel.
