Flood water has entered many areas due to rising water level of Yamuna river in the national capital Delhi. However, Minister Pravesh Verma in the Delhi government has claimed that the situation is completely under control and there is no need to panic. He said that the government had started preparing to deal with such a situation six months ago. In a conversation with the media, Pravesh Verma said, “The situation is completely under control and there is no need to panic Delhiites. The water level is still at its highest level and may increase a little further, but there is no danger at the moment.”

He said that when the current government was formed, preparations were started to deal with the flood -like situation during the monsoon. Referring to the flood of 2023, the minister said that at that time 3.30 lakh cusecs of water was released from Hathinikund barrage, causing waterlogging in many areas of Delhi. But this time, despite the release of equal amount of water, the streets of Delhi did not fill water. This is proof that the government made a concrete strategy of flood management in the last six months and fielded it.

Pravesh Verma also said that earlier the water level of Yamuna used to enter Delhi on reaching 208 meters, but this time, despite reaching 207 meters, there was no waterlogging. He said, “Even if the water level increases by one or two meters, the situation will still remain under control. Delhi government officials have done a great job in the last six months.”

Earlier, on Tuesday (September 2), Pravesh Verma held a review meeting with all the District Magistrates (DM) of Delhi. In the meeting, he gave clear instructions that negligence or laxity will not be tolerated at any level in dealing with flood -like disaster.
