Yoane Wissa has dismissed claims that he "pulled an Isak" to secure his transfer to Newcastle United, insisting that his relationship with Brentford remained intact. The 28-year-old's switch to St James' Park has drawn comparisons with Alexander Isak's record-breaking £130million move to Liverpool, after the Swedish star allegedly forced his way out to join the Reds.

However, Wissa maintains that he continued to train diligently with the Bees and kept up good relations following Brentford's thrilling journey from the Championship to the Premier League under the now-departed manager Thomas Frank. Wissa, who has been introduced as Newcastle's new no. 9, following in the illustrious footsteps of Alan Shearer, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Supermac and Micky Quinn, told NUFC TV: "There was a lot of respectful communication, always respectful communication.

"Open talks back and forth, of course, but always respectful. So they had their argument and I had mine, but the most important thing was it was always respectful with all of them.

"That is why I kept myself fit, training, seeing the guys and being around every day, waiting for the right move. It was a wonderful journey, even for this deal to happen is difficult because I had a story at Brentford. That is why I have a lot of respect for them.

"Even though I am now a Newcastle player, I have a lot of love and respect for Brentford. It has been tough, up and down, but we should remember what we created last year, it has been an amazing journey.

"Of course, the partnership with Bryan Mbeumo, it was one of the best in Brentford history, the communication with the fan as I was one of the leaders in the dressing room. So I had to step forward and speak a lot with Thomas Frank about that.

"The most important facts are that there were a lot of goals and wins, we broke records, we should remember that moment.

"I take nothing for granted. I give everything in my heart when I play. I really love Brentford even though it was difficult."

Wissa made the journey personally to Newcastle to push through the transfer before receiving approval from Brentford bosses following a lengthy summer standoff. However, he is now thrilled about the prospect awaiting him on Tyneside, with his bow against Wolves set to arrive after the international break at a packed St James' Park.

Wissa commented: "I still can't believe, it was a long moment what I've been through with my desire to come here, it now feels strange. The move I really wanted happened, so I am quite emotional about it. I am really proud."

Receiving the number nine jersey represents a significant show of faith from his new manager Eddie Howe, and Wissa is eager to begin working under the head coach.

Wissa explained: "I think Eddie Howe analysed me perfectly. He will give me a lot of freedom and would like me to create danger. He wants me on the team to be part of the main characters, and obviously I said: 'Yes I want to come'.

"I wanted to make it happen. I am better when I feel loved, if I am honest. I know I can give 100 per cent myself. I hope I can show it straight away, but when I feel love, I can be better."
