Employee’s difficulty

This is a shocking event for young professionals working in the corporate sector. An employee shared that he joined the company as a new fresher in January and since then reached the office on time working hard, without any unplaced holiday. But when there were difficulties in personal life, he expected sympathy from his manager. Unfortunately, he had to face pressure to return to work.

Family crisis

The employee said that in late August, his family faced two major crises. His grandmother died first and shortly after that his niece was born before time, for which he had to be hospitalized. In this difficult time he broke naturally and hoped that his manager would understand his situation. But instead, he was told that it is necessary to come to the office, as if nothing has happened.

WhatsApp chat revealed

To prove his claim, the employee shared a screenshot of WhatsApp conversation with the manager. In it, he wrote, ‘Our child is in NICU and will be in observation for the next 24 hours. I will not be able to come to work tomorrow, because I am in the hospital right now. On this, the manager first said, ‘Okay son, thank you for the update.’ But immediately after he wrote, ‘If there is a possibility of coming tomorrow, please try.’ This answer deeply impressed the employee and many other youth.

Question on corporate culture

This incident has given rise to a debate on social media. Many believe that the lack of sensitivity at the workplace negatively affects the mental health of the employees, especially when there is a crisis in personal life. Many users described it as an example of the ‘Culture Cruelty’ of the corporate world and said that not only the goals and deadline are important, but the employees’ feelings and their personal circumstances are equally important.

Responsibility for mental health

This case is not only of an employee, but the voice of thousands of youth who are facing lack of sympathy in offices. Experts say that companies should not only focus on productivity, but should also take care of the mental health of the employees. A healthy and balanced mindset is the foundation of good work and better results. This incident once again forces to think whether the corporate atmosphere has focused on more goals and figures than humanity.
