Synopsis

Health officials warned about a Salmonella outbreak linked to popular egg brands in the US. Many people in different states have become sick, and some are in the hospital. The FDA announced an egg recall, and the CDC asked people to check their cartons. Consumers are told to stay safe and follow the recall advice.

A national warning has been issued about eggs linked to a “life-threatening” Salmonella infection. 95 people across 14 states have fallen sick from this outbreak. 18 patients have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported yet.

In North Carolina, two cases have already been confirmed. On Wednesday, Country Eggs, LLC recalled cartons of its large brown cage-free eggs. The recalled eggs were sold under the names “Sunshine Yolks” and “Omega-3 Golden Yolk”, according to the report by The U.S. Sun.

The eggs also appeared under other brand cartons, Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, and Nijiya Markets. Shipments went out between June 16 and July 9 in California and Nevada. The packaging sell-by dates were from July 1 to September 18.

Officials warned that the exact number of sick people is probably higher because many people have never been tested. Delays in lab testing mean newer cases may not be included. The CDC urged people to check refrigerators for recalled cartons and throw them away immediately. People must also clean surfaces and kitchen tools that touch the eggs to avoid spreading infection, as stated by The U.S. Sun.

FDA egg recall warning for consumers

Doctors advised calling a healthcare provider if there are severe symptoms such as diarrhea with a fever above 102°F, vomiting, dehydration, or diarrhea lasting more than three days. The FDA and CDC are still investigating the multistate outbreak.

A similar recall happened last month in August, when the FDA recalled Large Brown Cage Free Sunshine Yolk eggs for possible Salmonella. That earlier outbreak had 92 reported cases, as per the report by The U.S. Sun.
