New Delhi: He was among Indias most successful captains. After retiring he took on roles as a commentator cricket administrator and mentor. Now for the first time in his career Sourav Ganguly will take on the role of head coach as he leads Pretoria Capitals in SA20 which is South Africas top T20 league. The league is beginning December 26.
Sourav Ganguly will be put to the test right away as he steps into his new role during the first-ever SA20 auction set for Tuesday September 9. The Pretoria Capitals have kept only three players – Will Jacks Sherfane Rutherford and Andre Russell. Head into the auction with the biggest budget of R32.5 million. Gangulys challenge will be to rebuild a team that had a poor season last year winning only 2 out of 10 matches and finishing at the bottom of the table.
Who shared Sourav Gangulys belief?
As Ganguly prepares for this new challenge his close friend and SA20 league commissioner Graeme Smith shared his belief that the former India skipper will do well as head coach. If we talk about Sourav Gangulys experience Graeme Smith is confident that Gangulys experience and cricketing wisdom will be a huge asset in guiding and developing local players.
What was Graeme Smiths statement?
I met him in and around the World Test Championship final. He told me he was going to be coaching this year. He has been involved with the Capitals. Last year even though Jonathan Trott was the coach we sought Dadas advice on countless occasions in and around learning Smith said during a media interaction organised by SA20.
