Significance of NEP 2020 in India's Development

New Delhi, Sep 5: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, asserting its pivotal role in India's path towards self-sufficiency and progress.

The article, authored by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, provides an in-depth look at the evolving responsibilities of educators in a rapidly changing environment. It highlights how teachers, as 'transformers', will cultivate future generations into responsible and ethical citizens.

In sharing the article titled ‘The Teacher in a Changing World’, published in a prominent daily, PM Modi remarked, “The Union Minister elaborates on the importance of NEP 2020 and how educators are swiftly adapting to digital classrooms, artificial intelligence, and diverse learning requirements, aided by initiatives like PM eVidya, DIKSHA, and SWAYAM.”

Pradhan articulated his thoughts on India's quest for self-reliance and development, stating that NEP 2020 is a significant national initiative that lies at the heart of the 'atmanirbharta' mission aimed for 2047.

He noted, “The NEP identifies teachers as 'transformers' who will guide future generations to become responsible, skilled, and well-rounded individuals. The Prime Minister has consistently highlighted the essential role of teachers in this mission.”

He further expressed, “Parents give birth; the guru gives life. These life-givers are the essence of the magnificent structure. While the government can build the school, it is the teachers who embody its spirit.”

Recently, the Prime Minister called for achieving ‘atmanirbharta’ and embracing ‘swadeshi’ during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, reiterating this message on various platforms to foster a prosperous India by 2047.

The NEP 2020 has now marked five years since its inception, establishing an ambitious framework to revolutionize Indian schools into environments where learning transcends traditional textbooks, grades, and rote memorization. The proposed “5+3+3+4” structure and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023 aim to encourage experiential and competency-based education.
