Strengthening Rural Connectivity in Bihar

The Bihar government has initiated a significant project aimed at connecting villages with urban areas and enhancing rural infrastructure. Under the ambitious "Chief Minister Rural Bridge Scheme," construction of 704 new bridges across the state will commence on September 10, 2025. The government has allocated a budget of ₹3,688 crores for this initiative, which aims to provide permanent and safe road connectivity to thousands of villages.

Strict Guidelines for Contractors

The Rural Works Department has issued clear directives to contractors responsible for building roads and bridges in rural areas. They have been warned that failure to start construction by September 10 will result in strict penalties, including the forfeiture of their security deposits and being blacklisted. The Chief Minister Rural Bridge Scheme aims to establish uninterrupted road connectivity in rural regions that often face disruptions due to rain, floods, or dilapidated bridges. This initiative will not only replace old and unsafe bridges with new, robust structures but also connect routes that currently lack bridges.

Completing Incomplete Projects

Additionally, the government plans to complete the construction of approach roads to existing bridges, ensuring that residents face no difficulties in transportation. The districts approved for bridge construction include areas from both northern and southern Bihar, with the highest number of bridges being built in East Champaran, where 56 bridges have received approval. Other districts include Darbhanga with 38, Gaya, Siwan, and Sitamarhi with 30 each, and several others with varying numbers of bridges.

Public Participation in Planning

This scheme is particularly noteworthy as it prioritizes the demands of the public. Proposals made during the "Chief Minister's Darbar" program and public announcements by the Chief Minister have been incorporated into this initiative, making it a product of community involvement rather than just a departmental effort.

Transforming Rural Life

The government believes that this initiative is not merely about constructing bridges but serves as a foundation for the social and economic development of villages. It will facilitate farmers in transporting their products to markets, provide safe routes for children to attend school, and ensure that residents can reach major hospitals in cities during emergencies.
