Tesco is urgently recalling a popular meal over concerns it could be deadly to those with two severe food allergies. The chain supermarket's Stir Fry Tikka Chicken has been taken off shelves due to undeclared egg and mustard, not mentioned on the label.
Tesco is urging customers not to eat the chicken product due to an undeclared egg and mustard in the sauce sachet, which are not mentioned on the label. This sparked a health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to egg or mustard. Recall alerts are issued when there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold.
These alerts are issued when there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) explains: "Sometimes foods have to be withdrawn or recalled if there is a risk to consumers because the allergy labelling is missing or incorrect or if there is any other food allergy risk. When there is a food allergy risk, the FSA will issue an Allergy Alert."
Customers have been warned not to consume the product and instead return it to any Tesco store for a full refund.
Affected batches of the 650g Tesco Stir Fry Tikka Chicken are ones with a use-by date of 7 September, 2025.
The supermarket said: "No other Tesco products are affected by this recall. We're sorry for any inconvenience caused."
TheFSA, which published the warning, said: "Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.
"These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.
"If you have bought the above product do not eat it.
"Instead, return it to any Tesco store for a full refund. No receipt is required. For further enquiries, please visit the Contact page on Tesco's website."
