New Delhi: The Pakistan womens cricket team will not be attending the opening ceremony of the ICC Womens World Cup 2025 in Guwahati on September 30. According to a report by Geo Super the tournaments first match between India and Sri Lanka will be played after the grand opening ceremony. Renowned Indian singer Shreya Ghoshal will entertain the audience with her melodious voice at the event. However sources revealed that neither captain Fatima Sana nor any other representative from the Pakistan team will be traveling to India.
Impact of India-Pakistan Policy
According to the report Pakistans absence is due to the recent policy decision between the two countries. During the Champions Trophy it was decided that India and Pakistan would not participate in ICC tournaments in each others country for the next three years.
Tensions in Political Relations
Due to political tensions between India and Pakistan India has not visited Pakistan since 2008. Pakistan hosted the Champions Trophy this year in February but India refused to travel across the border and ultimately won the tournament.
Pakistans Matches to be Held in Colombo
As a result of this decision Pakistan will play all its matches at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. If Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals on October 29 and the final on November 2 these matches will also be held in Colombo. Pakistan will play its first match against Bangladesh on October 2.
Pakistan Remains Unbeaten in Qualifiers
The Pakistan womens team performed brilliantly in the qualifying tournament winning all five matches to qualify for the World Cup. This achievement secured their place in the tournament. The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan will be played on October 5.
